BIO
Brian Mulholland is an adjunct assistant professor of jazz bass and music business at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). He toured nationally with jazz artist Maynard Ferguson, performing on Ferguson's final album, The One and Only, and the Maynard Ferguson Tribute DVD.
Mulholland’s album Deco (2005) features original music for jazz quintet and solo bass. In 2021, he created Gaikoku City Pop Band (外国・シティ・ポップ・バンド), an ensemble that performs 1970s-80s Japanese-language music revived by DJs and viral social media.
As a bassist, he has supported artists of various styles, including Gavin Creel, Jeffry Eckels, Jennifer Holliday, “Blue Lou” Marini, Chip McNeill, Diane Schuur, Lynn Seaton, and Irma Thomas. Mr. Mulholland has taught in clinics and workshops at high schools and colleges, including Amarillo College, St. Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia, Canada), and the University of North Texas (UNT), as well as presented and performed at IAJE (1999) and ISB (2005, 2009) conferences.
Since 2007, he has taught courses at UTA, including jazz history, film music appreciation, improvisation, and jazz combos. Mr. Mulholland holds degrees from the University of South Carolina (B.M.) and UNT (M.M.).
